New integrated holistic concepts for urban water management systems are examined and are more and more applied in a larger scale in Germany. 
These systems react to changing environments in a flexible way under consideration of economic and ecological aspects. They are summarised under the notion "New Alternative Sanitation Systems" (NASS).
